Visual Novel Localization Project Manager

Location: Isesaki, Japan

In this position you will become the central node for visual novel translation projects, coordinating with translators and programmers to ensure projects are finished with a balance of speed and quality. In addition, you'll be the lead QA tester, finding bugs and editing game scripts. You will be working for the JAST USA brand, the publisher of English localizations for visual novels such as Steins;Gate and Littlewitch Romanesque.


  • JLPT Level 3 or better
  • Good written English skills
  • Knowledge of the visual novel game genre
  • Good problem solving ability
  • Experience translating visual novels or equivalent projects
  • Comfortable working with adult material

Ideal Candidate:

  • Japanese Working Visa
  • Business-level Japanese
  • Experience managing localization projects
  • Experience in QA for software projects
  • Programming skills in one or more languages: C, C+, .NET, Java, Swift
  • Experience managing remote teams with online tools
  • Passion for wanting to bring new forms of otaku culture to a wider audience

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary is 280,000-350,000 yen per month depending on experience, plus twice-annual bonuses based on personal and overall company performance, with annual raises and flexible vacation time. We provide assistance with your apartment accommodations (initial deposits covered by us) and a company car for those with a Japanese driver's license.

Company Description

JAST USA was founded in 1996 with the goal of spreading Japanese visual novels to people around the world. Our company is based in San Diego, USA, but we also have a satellite office in Isesaki, Japan, on the edge of the Kanto Plain near Tokyo (45 minutes by Shinkansen), located next to our partner company J-List.
